What does Numb do?

Numb temporarily pauses keyboard and pointer input. It can provide a predictable break from involuntary input, give a caregiver time to adjust a setup, or let you clean without accidental typing, clicking, scrolling, or gestures.

How do I install Numb?

Download and open Numb.zip, then drag Numb to your Applications folder and open it. The app is signed with the 100K31D Developer ID and notarised by Apple. On first use, macOS asks you to allow Numb in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility.

What is Lock after?

Choose Now to pause input immediately, or delay the pause by 15, 30, or 60 seconds. Input stays active during the countdown. Click the countdown or press Escape to cancel before the pause begins.

How does Auto-unlock work?

A fresh install starts at 30 seconds. You can switch to 15 or 60 seconds, or choose Never for an open-ended session. Numb remembers your most recent choice for next time.

Can I pause only one device?

Yes. Keyboard and pointer input are selected by default, but you can turn either one off. The Trackpad control covers pointer input from both a mouse and a trackpad. Numb always keeps at least one option selected.

How do I unlock early?

When pointer input is paused, hold Space for three seconds. The Space key fills as you hold it and input returns when the hold completes. In keyboard-only mode, the pointer remains available, so use the on-screen Stop button instead.

Is Never mode safe?

Yes. Never removes the automatic timer, but not the manual exit. Hold Space for three seconds whenever pointer input is paused, or click Stop in keyboard-only mode.

What if Space does not respond?

Hold your Mac’s physical power button for 10 seconds until it shuts down, then press the button again to start it. Numb does not disable the physical power button or Touch ID.

Why does Numb need Accessibility access?

macOS requires Accessibility permission for Numb to pause selected input. Numb uses that access only while providing this function. It does not read other apps or keep a history of what you type.

Access is enabled, but Numb is still waiting. What now?

Return to Numb after enabling it in System Settings. The app will restart so macOS can apply the change. If Numb still shows “Waiting for access,” click Restart Numb and try again.

Does Numb block every physical control?

No. Hardware and system-reserved controls such as Touch ID, the power button, and some accessory-specific keys are managed by macOS or the device itself and may remain active. Numb is a temporary input-pause aid, not a security lock.

How much does Numb cost?

Nothing. Numb is a free direct download with no subscription, licence key, advertising, or in-app purchases.

Does Numb collect data or require an account?

No. There is no account, advertising, analytics, or network service. Your start delay, auto-unlock duration, device choices, and date of the last successful pause stay on your Mac. See the Privacy Policy for the full details.

Which Macs are supported?

Numb requires macOS 26 or later and works on MacBook, iMac, Mac mini, Mac Studio, and Mac Pro. It supports built-in and standard external keyboards, mice, and trackpads.
